Archery is growing at encouraging rates in Namibia with 25 NASP archers and 40 target archers participating in the year-end shoot.
Because of the growing numbers, the venue for the competition was changed to Windhoek High School sports ground.
Louw Nel, Ilana Malan and Xander Reddig again showed their competitors how it’s done with Nel in very good competition with Francois Marais and Ben van Wyk. Malan continued holding onto her number one position beating Elisabeth Taljaard and Liezl Schoeman respectively. Xander Reddig had good competition from his rival Adriaan Grobler, but the more experienced Xander won with ease.
On the NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) side, 6schools participated and the results were as follow:
In the Under Junior Females category, Alana Adonis from St Paul’ s won the Gold medal with 2 points against Nadia Martins from St Georges who won the Silver medal. The second runner up, winning Bronze, was Jana Swanepoel from St Paul’s.
Junior Male, Zander Els, from Carpe Diem Homeschooling won the Gold medal with a score of 256 out of 300. Pieter Hough, from Walvis Bay Private School, finished second with Arian Becker from St Georges as second runner up.
For our Senior Females, it was a very nerve wrecking gold medal match with the two Erasmus siblings from Berg-op School finishing their eliminations with the same score taking them to a single arrow shoot out. Melany Erasmus won Gold, Bianca Erasmus won Silver and Monique Louw from Walvis Bay Private School won Bronze.
In the Senior Male category, Lukas Els from Carpe Diem Homeschooling finished the day winning Gold, where as the Van Zyl brothers from Lüderitz finished with Rassie winning Silver and Johann winning Bonze.
National team representing Namibia at the 11th FAA Championship and Olympic Qualifier for Rio 2016.
Competition will be held in Windhoek from 28th-31st January 2016 at the DTS sportsground.
The Archery Association of Namibia (AAN), under auspices of the Namibian Sports Commission and Namibian National Olympic Committee and in association with World Archery (WA), has successfully won the bid to host the 11th Federation of African Archery Championship in Windhoek. The Championship will be held 28 - 31 January 2016 in Windhoek, Namibia. This event will also include the Continental Qualifying Tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the World Games in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017.
More than 50 elite archers from the following countries are expected to compete in Windhoek: Benin, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe. The championship is open for both Recurve and Compound archers noting that only archers in the Recurve discipline can qualify for participation in the Olympic Games while only Compound archers can qualify for the World Games 2017.

The past weekend was very important for Archery in Namibia. The archers who will represent Namibia at the 11thFederation of African Archery Championship & the Qualifier for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (2016) as well as the World Games (2017) were determined.
Thirty-three archers took part at the Trophaendienste Shoot at SKW where they shot a double 720 Round and Eliminations. Ben van Wyk (Gold) won the Compound Men competition, beating Francois Marais (Silver) in the eliminations. Louw Nel won the Bronze medal match against Rian Vermaak.
In the Compound Women competition Beanta Viviers took home the Gold medal with Mariska van Wyk and Bianca Karstens winning Silver and Bronze respectively.
The Recurve Men division saw Xander Reddig taking on Paul Grobler ending in a one arrow shootout with Xander taking Gold.

Namibian archery experienced an awesome day of top quality competition on September 19th in Windhoek. Forty archers from Sparta Club, Tsumeb Archery Club, Windhoek Field and Bow Hunting Club and SKW Archery Club competed at the annual Teuguni Shoot held at the SKW Archery Club range.
Francois Marais, who had not shot in 6 months due to medical reasons, won the Compound Men category with a score of 1359 out of a possible 1440 in the 1440 Round competition. Louw Nel finished in second place with a score of 1331 and Donavan Langenhoven took third place.
Ilana Malan won the Compound Women category with a score of 1350. Elisabeth Taaljaard scored 1337 to take second place and Beanta Viviers held on for third place with a score of 1304.

Following the primary 1440 Round competition the archers were ranked according to their scores in preparation for the elimination rounds. Archers shot at 70m, 50m, 40m, and 30m, with beginners shooting at 15m. Eliminations are not normally part of a 1440 Round competition, but were included as a “fun event”. It also served as practice for the African Archery Championships & African Continental Qualifying Tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games which will be held from January 28 – 31, 2016 at the DTS Sport Club in Windhoek.
The Recurve Men eliminations at 70m was won by Paul Grobler.
The 50m eliminations was a mixed (male/female) event comprising multiple age groups. Francois Marais captured first place against Elisabeth Taljaard who took second. Louw Nel defeated Donavan Langenhoven in a single arrow shoot-out to finish in third place.
The 40m eliminations was won by Gideon Brink in the Gold medal match against Adriaan Grobler. Grobler took second place with Quinn Reddig capturing third place.
In the 30m eliminations, Dirkie de Bod shot best to capture first place with SW Kuhn in second and Werner Grobler in third.
For all our beginners this was their 1st competition and they shot eliminations at 15m in a mixed compound/recurve competition. Recurve archer Barnie Henning from Tsumeb Archery Club won the eliminations after shooting against CJ Oosthuizen who placed second. Wendy Swart finished in third place.
