Brightstar Montesory School from Luderitz hosted a NASP competition on the 20th of June 2015.

A magnificent sea view was the backdrop for 26 NASP archers competing for high scores to represent Namibia later this year when the top ranking archers will be sent to The ALLS STARS AFRICA championship hosted in Cape Town.

When one little point can be the difference between winning and losing, the elimination rounds saw some nail biting moments, with sisters and brothers competing against each other for a spot in the final round!

Parents, spectators and participants enjoyed the competition and everybody agreed that the event was a great success even if some parents went home with very short nails after the elimination rounds!

The day was characterized by good sportsmanship and team spirit among all participants.

The past weekend was not only for Carnival, but, Berg Op School from Okahandja hosted a NASP competition yielding 58 archers from all over Namibia!

The Carnival atmosphere was tangible but after the first warm-up round the nervousness of the archers were quite visible, as for 16 of the 58 archers it was their last competition before leaving for Nashville, Tennessee early on Monday morning to participate at the NASP championships.

After a very long day with weather ranging from freezing cold to searing hot, Luderitz A (Crystal de Beer, Bendre Bothma, Camilla Mackenzie, Adriaan Bothma) were crowned overall winners.

Mr AB van Wyk from farm Katjapia sponsored an amazing prize to hunt a warthog (with bow) to the archer with the highest overall score. This prize was won by Lukas Els, who will be accompanied by PA Chirstiaan Bean on his hunt.

Congratulation to each and every archer who participated at the Berg Op shoot, and thank you to each and everyone who made this day possible.

Archery is definitely growing by leaps and bound in Namibia, as this is the only sport where anybody can participate, reagardless of age, gender, disability or build!

A team of 16 Namibian NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) archers participated in the All Stars competition hosted in Rustenburg, South Africa last Friday and Saturday, 2-3 October.

The team was well prepared and did some positive team building in Rustenburg. With a new motto of “always be positive” they were ready for the opposition.

The Namibians competed against strong teams from South Africa and Zimbabwe. On Friday the 2nd, 3rd and 4thNamibian teams lost against the opposition while the 1st team advanced to Saturday’s competition. Carried through by the positive team spirit of their teammates, the 1st team secured a well-deserved bronze medal.

The teams members were

Our well know Recurve archer Xander Reddig was part of the Namibian team that went to the Youth Commonwealth games in Samoa. In the Quarter finals Xander lost against Bangladesh (who went on and clinched gold overall) with a single arrow shoot out in the 10 with a difference of 2-5mm. He finished 6th overall.

Further we had a team of 7 archers participating in Zimbabwe where the Z.A.A. held their 42nd Nationals and first since 2001. With the high standard of our Namibian archers this was a very good learning curve for the Zimbabwe archers.

In the 1440 round Namibia won all 5 categories were our archers participated.

On 40 m our Recurve archer Quinn Reddig won with a score of 115 against the Zimbabwean compound archer Nicole who scored 91.

Our youngest archer Dirk de Bod shot on 30m and won with an elimination score of 136 against Shania with a score of 100.

The Zimbabwe Archery Association was very pleased that the Namibian archers did the trip to help them get their archery up to World Archery standard and learn from our more experienced archers.

From the 2nd -3rd of October the top 16 Namibian NASP Archers from 6 Namibian Schools will participate at the African All Star competition in Rustenburg where South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe will be participating. The team will be leaving on the 30th of September and will be back in the country on the 4th of October. We wish good luck to the 16 Archers.
